Dark Sea Sounds 2
2021
Photos by Caitlin Taber

Iterating upon a book I created for a Dark Sea Sounds video in 2020, this one was constructed to be twice as large. Like the original Sea Sounds book, it features hand-dyed pages that mix India Ink and sea salt, and it unfolds to six feet wide when fully open. This makes viewing the book a tactile and aural meditation, intentionally repetitive, and also requires the viewer's gross physicality. Turning the large pages becomes a full-body experience.

This was also an exercise in rescinding control as an artist, as I allowed the ink and salt to mix at will; and ordering the pages loosely and spontaneously.
